Dear friends,
Welcome (back) to U of T for another academic year.

This Thursday is the first regular weekly gathering of the Graduate Christian Fellowship.

Welcome to dinner shared around a table. Welcome to life-changing conversations that range broadly, and probe deeply. Welcome to a community in the heart of the campus that aims to be safe place to ask hard questions and share the stories of our lives. Welcome to a place of both stillness and engagement, laughter and lament, challenge and encouragement.

A colleague once likened campus ministry to an inn. Each of us is on a journey – typically a long one – from a variety of past of experiences and places to a future that’s often unclear, or only slowly coming into focus. Sometimes it feels like we’re carving through a jungle, trudging across a wasteland, or hurtling along a highway. But along the way we all look for places to find what we need to sustain our journey: nourishment and rest for body and spirit, stories to share, inspiration and directions for the next leg of the trip.

This Thursday after dinner we’ll talk a bit about some of our hopes and plans for the year ahead, both as individuals and as a ministry. Several students will talk briefly about how this community has been important for them in the past. And Marcia Boniferro, the newest member of our staff team, will introduce herself, tell us a bit about where she’s been before, and share some of the vision and passion that she brings to this campus ministry.

Regardless of where we’ve come from, or where we’re headed, for the next few months this campus and this city will be our shared home and place of vocation. Please join us, and let’s travel the next part of our journey together. And please spread the word. Tell your friends about this community, and bring along anyone you know who needsĀ  a place like this to call home forĀ  a while.

Whether you’ve been here before, or you’re a newcomer, you are welcome here, and we’re looking forward to seeing you.
